Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers’ Forum meet held in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, Aug 24 – An extended meeting of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers’ Forum was held at Rehabari today under the chairmanship of Dils Lakshmindra Sinha, a press release stated. A threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to the language, literature and culture of this minor ethnic group in the State. The members reiterated the need for a scientific approach to protect the language from the onslaught of globalisation and popularising the language amongst younger generations. They felt the need for translation of Bishnupriya Manipuri literature into English and Assamese and vice versa.

The meeting decided to hold a seminar-cum-workshop in the last part of September under the caption, “Challenges before the minor languages”. The meeting further decided to publish a half-yearly journal in September and April every year and drive for membership amongst the young writers.

Jaiprakash Sinha, Ramlal Sinha, Depashree Sinha, Z Prativa Sinha, Narendra Sinha, Ramendu Sinha, Debashis Sinha and others spoke on the occasion, Kanchan Boron Sinha thanked the chair on behalf of the house, the release added.

    1. In continuation to the above news, I am adding some additional information about the Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers’ Forum as under :-

      The Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers’ Forum (NGO) is a newly established society formed on 4th April, 2009 at Guwahati (Assam). The forum is under process for Registration under the Society Registration Act, 1860 by Assam.

      The Society is established with the purpose to serve and fulfill the following key objectives :-

      1. To collect, preserve and publish the dying oral literature of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Community in North East India.

      2. Documentation of folk life and folk culture of the Bishnupriya Manipuris in North East India.

      3. To conduct research programmes, training, seminars, workshops, symposia, conference on Bishnupriya Manipuri language, literature, art and culture from time to time.

      4. To set up a pearl cultural unit and to arrange for imparting training in and outside the state and country.

      5. To conduct workshop on translation studies.

      6. To translate Indian and World Literature into Bishnupriya Manipuri.

      7. To translate Bishnupriya Manipuri Literature into English and other Indian Languages.

      8. To prepare multilingual word book and language primer.

      9. To implement projects for monolingual, bilingual and multilingual print-cum-web dictionary that helps to widen the horizon of emotional integration among different language speakers.

      10. To take up all possible steps for linguistic survey.

      11. To produce/ print/ publish literature, journals, books, booklet, newsletter, literary collection etc. from time to time.

      12. To seek support from State govt./ Central Govt. to establish an ethnographic museum for the authentic documentation and preservation of the material culture of the Bishnupriya Manipuris and other ethnic groups of North East India and their heritage.

Pratibha's additional news should have been the original one.The press release on the extended meeting held at Rehabari(place not known to readers out side Guwahati)carries,no meaning.Why people are so impatient to run up to the press without any thought.I thank Ms.Pratibha,who has rescued them in a quick succession.
      She has stated so elaborately in cronological way,that I have no other choice but to congratulate and wish her a happy journey towards the services of the B.M.society.

      Thank you for your comments on Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers' Forum. The news item published in the Assam Tribune (as visible in the website) is the news item regarding the Forum's meet only held at Rehabari published from Guwahati. So, kaka I think place is not the important thing but the aim of the forum. What Pratibha adds is the objectives of the Forum which may not be added to the news of The Assam Tribune.

    Undoubtedly, the accurate period of the emergence or the development of religious consciousness of the Bishnupriya Manipuri is difficult to ascertain, but it is an old one that is undoubted, writes Rini Sinha , Guwahati .
