Life: a faithful friend

by Asmita Sinha Today morning a tragic incident happened in my locality; a student took his own life. This tendency is gradually increasing in youths who are constantly under pressure from their own and others' expectations. Life is an asset in itself. It is precious and must not be measured in terms and conditions. It is simple and demands no complexity; only few simple needs are to be fulfilled to lead a satisfied life. But the unbridled desires, aspirations, ambitions drive us to compete, make us restless, judgemental, cynical, pessimist and desperate … Whatever conditions life brings, one must be rooted in knowledge of reality everything is transient, temporary. In fact, change is the only constant thing. The phases, conditions, opinions, perspectives all are relative, going to be changed with changing time and experiences. Man has to be flexible in perspective, of course not in ideals and ethics. All problems are temporary...People who take their life, they give permanent ...

Republic Day with a Northeast Thought

by Asmita Sinha Happy Republic Day T oday we are celebrating the spirit of Sovereign and Independent India. Every year we celebrate it on Republic Day but the present scenario in the Northeastern states gives a setback. The growing gap between the people of neighbouring states of the region is creating more alienation weakening the true fabric of India. The creation of states was to fulfill the aspirations of different ethnic groups of the region but the first casualty has been the resultant gaping between the hearts. The political set-ups in the region, in the form of states, are seemed to institutionalize this gap and failed to create an understanding, a feeling of welfare and strengthen the affinity. However, there has always been a considerate gap on the line of ethnicity and geography, which had  been accepted with a mark of respect and tolerance but there was no distance among hearts. This gap has now become a social and psychological distance and gradually taking a c...

Global Warming: A serious threat to earth and its life forms

By Asmita Sinha In recent years, Global warming has been a hot topic of discussion. It is considered by the scientists as a serious threat to the existence of our Planet Earth and its climate. The changing climate and the increasing instability in its pattern is an evidence of Global warming though most of us have little knowledge and awareness about its causes and grave consequences. What Is Global Warming? In general terms, global warming can be described as the increase in the temperature of earth’s atmosphere, and the consequent increase in the temperature of oceans and land masses. This increase in the temperature is due to the concentration and building-up of Green House Gases (commonly known as GHG) in the earth’s atmosphere. Green House Gases include carbon dioxide, methane, water vapour and nitrous oxide. However, these gases are naturally present in the earth’s atmosphere and do important function in the natural process of green house effect by retaining the heat and pr...

Diwali means rejoice in Atman

By Asmita Sinha Diwali Greetings Diwali has always been my favourite festival since my childhood. It has always made me excited with its sparkling lights, decorated homes, noisy fire crackers and varieties of sweets. The whole illuminated environment makes me happy. My mother says I was born on Choti Diwali. So, I make the connection easily with it. I remember how my mother used to make different sweets by her own hands and how my father used to bring firecrackers especially for me. How I used to blast bombs, rockets and fire crackers, I was least fearful being a girl… At night, we used to distribute sweets to all our neighbours, some of whom we never talked with, but there was a feeling of fellow being. It was so much fun, so much warmth, so much togetherness. Today, those days have passed and life has changed but the festival still comes with its light, brightness and noise. Now when I see kids along with their friends filled with happiness and all their spirit blast firecracke...
