Hallelujah Drogba!

Delhi Diary Raj Kumar Mithilesh Sinha India is a cricket dominating country. Here cricket is a religion and Sachin is a God, But for me it is Football that drives my nerves. I follow this sport ardently just like a staunch, passionate believer of any faith. As it is said : ‘’Cricket is known as gentlemen’s game but Football is a men’s game. Here one will feel the passion, anger and love.’’ And I love this beautiful game.  Didier Drogba It was Sunday and the date was 17th June 2012. The scorching heat of Delhi compel anyone stay inside, but I was absolutely in a frenzied state to witness the historic moment I was waiting since long. It will not be an exaggeration if I say it is the best day of my life. I saw my favorite football star Didier Drogba in reality before my eyes. Former Chelsea striker and all time top scorer of the Côte d'Ivoire national football team is a living legend for his country and for his Club. I hurriedly got ready and was soon riding my Enfie...

Kang Pali faces rough weather

News In a meeting held at Manglapuri, New Delhi on June 7, 2009 the attendees discussed array of topics from stationery, to land, to finalization of venue, to the logistics related to the organizing the Kang Pali, to be held on June 25, 2009. The meeting was participated by Bishnupriya Manipuri people from Manglapuri, Sagarpur, Shyam Vihar, CR Park, Gurgaon and from other areas of Delhi. No consensus was built on finalizing the nitty-gritty involved with the organizing the Kang Pali. Participants preferred organizing the puja at their pocket areas. Problems have cropped up with the content of the receipt books, letter heads, due to which donation-drive can’t be carried out. With the prevailing sentiments there is less probability that the puja could take place on time, and on a grand scale. Failure of celebrating the puja collectively by the Bishnupriya Manipuri residents of Delhi and NCR region will douse the spirit and confidence of the people on the Samity. What is your say - Kang P...

Bishnupriya Manipuri Nagarik Samity, Delhi and NCR, in a meeting held on March 8, at Manglapuri, New Delhi, has taken an unanimous decision to fix the subscription fee for its members at Rs 225 per quarter per family.  Members of the Samity also have the options to pay the fee at monthly (Rs 75), quarterly or half-yearly pattern, absolutely to their ease and comfort.  It is to be noted that the subscription fee that a member has to pay is different from the membership fee. Membership fee is one-time payment of Rs 100, whereas subscription fee is a monthly contribution of Rs 75 per month per family to the society.  Intense debate took place on the fixing up of the subscription fee among the participants. Many attendees were of the opinion to fix it at Rs 100 per month, per family, however with disparity in the income source among the people it was at last decided fixing the amount at Rs 75 per month per family.  The issue of purchase of land for the mandir also came up in the meeting. Watch the last video of Bishnupriya Manipuri New Delhi programme

Watch video! This is the last video in the Bishnupriya Manipuri New Delhi series. The shoot of the video was done on November 2, 2009 in New Delhi on the eve of birth celebration of Sri Sri Bhubeneshwar Sadhu Thakur.  The series of videos are not mere moving representation of the day and the people. It tells a story of an event where the Bishnupriya Manipuri people living in Delhi and adjoining areas participated, making the event “special” for everyone. Irrespective of age, status, under one roof we all smilingly congregated, becoming egoless creatures.  Watch the smiling faces in this video! You can see everybody wearing a SMILE, a silent smile. You can see people roaming here and there and talking relentlessly with no care of the monotonous life that we all had to undergo.  Watch out! Happy Holi!! Colourful tableau of Assam and Tripura on 26 Jan

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi For many of us, the Republic Day of India might be one more day where we don’t have to drop in to our office, but if we go back to our school days, we remember the day held a very special status. It was marked with festivity all around, people distributing sweets to neighbours and strangers alike.  In those days where Doordarshan was the only television channel beaming the country’s hinterlands, the day was observed with much reverence, family members and neighbours sharing a singleton black and white set. Those days were indeed golden days of our life.  Life was simple and so were our demands. Like the present day, where we see security barricades that pops up in nook and cranny on this day, nothing as such was visible on this day earlier. Fear was nowhere in our psyche and in the environment.  Alas! Time has changed. Now, children don’t enjoy the day. They remain cocooned to the four walls of their home. We don’t take them out. Even we remain in the p...

Let us bury the hatchet

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi Let us bury the hatchet. Let us not bring online world to our offline real world. We all are good people, simplicity is in our blood. We are not complex, we can’t think complex things. We hate complexity.  That is why; the small minority community called the Bishnupriya Manipuri people are being loved by the whole world. Whether it is in India or in Bangladesh, every individual know how we are being welcomed by everyone. We don’t need proof to this fact.  No doubt, we have differences. And we have to accept this. One can’t be autocratic; we live in a democratic world. And the online world is the best example of democracy. This blog is democratic. Everything is visible. Nothing remains hided here.  Past few days when we all were commenting and I wrote flurry of articles with photos, something we have missed: the programme was hijacked by other community. I mean the mainstream media didn’t highlight our programme but their contribution.  Here, as a mark o...

Sagar Pur begs the highest population of Bishnupriya Manipuri living in Delhi

The Sagarpur area in Delhi is one area where the concentration of Bishnupriya Manipuri shows the highest population from all places in the capital of India. The Bishnupriya Manipuris living in Delhi are sprinkled all around the metro city from the posh area of South Extension, CR Park to the less developed areas like Najafgarh.  See the chart. The population of Bishnupriya Manipuri people living in Delhi could be believed the highest among all metros in India, keeping apart the areas in Assam and Tripura. The influx of such a large population of the Bishnupriya Manipuri people is a proof of the meteoric rise of India Inc. and the prospect of job opportunity that the city provides to them. What are the reasons that the Sagarpur got the highest number of Bishnupriya Manipuri living in Delhi?  (1) Friends-bring- friends: This is one reason that worked as catalyst making the area as mini-Bishnupriya Manipuri town. Most of the residents are young boys in early twenties who have brought the...

Jingta Koro Imar Thar

The Bishnupriya Manipuri language is in fact an eco friendly, cholesterol free language. It does no harm if spoken moderately, at least at home or with fellow Bishnupriya Manipuris. Injecting into the child the habit to speak in Bishnupriya Manipuri should be as crucial as polio vaccination is. By Henryy Sinha, New Delhi Grant me the privilege for a constructive crib! On the 21st December 2008, a Mahila Samiti was formed in New Delhi by the Bishnupriya Manipuri Nagarik Samiti, (New Delhi- NCR). Needless to say, it’s a great initiative. Most importantly, an important initiative. But somehow a wicked voice in my head says, this Mahila Samiti might end up as yet another feel good, cosmetic outfit. Sorry for my premonition. I might have just fallen prey to facts. Maybe plain history. It’s ritualistic to offer ‘privileges’ to a woman with a patronizing tone for the men. Be it America, Afghanistan or Japirbon, the plot remains the same. And this ritual, I bet is very much pronounced in o...
