Obituary: Centenarian Malini Devi

Obituary Centenarian Malini Devi, mother of Bhimsen Sinha passed away on 25 January 2012. With her we lost a living history of Bishnupriya Manipuri. She was the only woman speaker who spoke and sang in the founding session of Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha NBMM at Gokila Protapgarh in 1932.

Dr Kali Prasad Sinha: a tribute

By Dilip Sinha A prominent academician of the North-East, Prof Kali Prasad Sinha died on June 2 at 5.10 pm at Divyashram, East Kachudharam near Silchar. Prof Sinha was born on January 3, 1937 in a small village called East Kachudharam, Silchar. Well-known all over India and abroad for his sterling contributions to Philosophy, Indology and linguistics, he has more than 30 books published reputed publishers of India. KP Sinha was an exponent of Bishnupriya Manipuri Linguistics. His contribution to Linguistics, Socio-linguistic studies and literature concretised the foundation of Bishnupriya Manipuri language and literature. He was a student of world famous Linguistic Prof. Suniti Kumar Chatterjee. Death condoled

Kali Prasad Sinha The teachers and students of the Department of Sanskrit, Gauhati University and admirers of Prof KP Sinha held a meeting on June 6 in the Department of Sanskrit and condoled the sad demise of Professor Kali Prasad Sinha, former Professor of the Department of Sanskrit, GU and an eminent Sanskrit scholar of Assam. The teachers and students recalled his contribution and expressed condolence to the bereaved family and prayed to God for the eternal peace of the departed soul, a press release stated. Obituary: Dr KP Sinha

The Assam Tribune CORRESPONDENT SILCHAR, June 3 – An eminent educationist of Sanskrit in the State, Prof Kali Prasad Sinha passed away yesterday at his East Kachudharam residence on the outskirts of Silchar town. He was 75. Dr KP Sinha  Prof Sinha retired from Assam University as head of the Department of Sanskrit. Ealier, he was lecturer of Sanskrit at Gauhati University and then at Tripura University prior to joining Assam University. He was the first Bishnupriya Manipuri scholar to have been awarded PhD and DLit degrees. A bachelor, Prof Sinha was the general secretary of the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha for sometime. He was also associated with the Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Sabha. Prof Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, Vice Chancellor of Assam University has expressed deep sorrow on his demise.
