Call of the Deceased

By  Sachin Sinha , Kahilipara, Guwahati-19 Beyond the beautiful realm of dreams, I heard the voice of the faded. Cold, chilly voices beyond the veil Muffling the call of the dead. The victims of the cruel acts, Arising from their deep slumber. The haunted, gloomy look upon their faces, Brimming with a desire to express their fear.. Fear on their faces, Made me somewhat bold. To fulfill the desire of the deceased Waiting for something to be told.. ''Cruelty of the past, Still reverbating amongst the people. Greed, Envy, Treachery Existing still amidst the mingle. Evil deeds of the past Are yet to be resolved, The negativity amongst the people Has greatly evolved.'' The outcome of the words spoken, Was remorse deep within me. With shame and grief I wondered, ''Am i living life truly?'' Such distracted I was In the Draught of the Living Dead. The scene aroused me And I fell from my bed. Thus the life succeeding, Was neve...

DARLING, a poem by Debojyoti Sinha

DARLING By Dils Debojyoti Sinha You are my heart, You are my song, I have ruined my life Only for you. For you, I am self-oblivious Though to others, a trash. Yet people know that You are my great darling. I have ruined my life Only for you. You are my hope, You are my faith, Even if this life gets withered No remorse. As I have already offered This life to you. Let me turn to ashes Burning in the fire of misery, I know I will be in heaven If I can die for you. Even if this life gets withered No remorse. As I have already offered This life to you. (Based on “THOIGO”of Madan Mohan Mukharjee, one of the pioneers of Bishnupriya Manipuri modern poetry.First published in SELPUNG,1997)

THE CLARION CALL, a poem by Debojyoti Sinha

Dils Debojyoti Sinha, Mumbai The boat of the Bishnupriyas got afloat again In the sea of time, bisecting the waves of misery. Come on, ride quickly. Do not get afraid of the storm of clan discriminations among us. Come on, ride quickly by chanting the name of Lord Bishnu. Tanubabu and Kirtibabu are the flags And are flying high defying the storm. Do not get afraid , come on, ride quickly The boat is afloat negotiating the waves. Mahendrababu is the sailor, Krishnadas the helmsman Dhirachandra, Nila Mukharjee are with them to assist, Rudrababu is the shed, Krishnakumar the pushing pole, Falguni, Babuchand B.L. are the oarsmen. The boat is afloat braving the waves Do not get afraid, come on , ride quickly Jadab master is the first passenger from the Madai's Nadia from Kanchanbari, a lot from Halhali Though some villages are curiously away Causing, for all, a painful concern. To board in the boat from the shore The linking plank, made of Gokul's heart, is...

For Whom I Cry

By Dils Debojyoti Sinha, Mumbai For whom I cry nobody understood They thought it otherwise Though I cry only for their good. They do not think for the hard days to come Rather busy in finding faults with others; When I talk of reforms they thought I do it only to coverup my weaknesses. Nobody thinks about the hard days ahead Rather passing the days foppishly By giving to others the whole dividend. They have the eyes to see But no mind to apply, When I try to point it out Simply termed me as selfish and rubbish. I told them to be spendthrift To go for self-woven clothes at best possible They thought that I am talking of it Only for my gain. I warned that poverty is gripping fast And to go for measures proper, They turned deaf ears and remained lavish Only to be stripped to the fun of others. I wandered from place to place And sang my heart out I got, indeed, a pleasant audience But a little who can judge and act. In practice nobody paid any heed to my w...

Untold pain, a poem by Shila Sinha

Untold pain By Shila Sinha Heard a shrill cry Heartbreaking unbearable That makes me perplexed Left me paralyzed with shock, And benumb with panic. That took away my breath Nostalgia veiled for sometime, But being the man of today Have to endure all the pain. Soul is stirred violently Awaken from the slumber. The feeling which was untold Become visible with hatred and agony That bursts into violence Causing vandalism, destruction of innocent life. Leading a road to ruin. There nobody can breathe peacefully Everywhere there is disbelief Sustaining everyone in unrest Tracing foe in friends But relentless struggle and violence Never precedes to peace Freedom without peace Bring life to a cease Waling and moaning Freeze our life for a while But never bring any great change. Life is flowing, so are we Yet to find the happiness That is ceased in the violence. Today is Erei (Friday) What next?

LIFE SPAN OF ONE DAY, a poem by Pratibha Sinha

LIFE SPAN OF ONE DAY Pratibha Sinha, Guwahati The Sun’s beam touches the earth, Trust no future, however pleasant; Countless life takes birth, Act-act in the living present. The cheerful dawn brings the ray of hope, It is the real beauty where life revels; Childhood opens the path of scope, Where all faults is venial. The ringing morning shows the day, Lark sings, cold air blows around;        Teenage shows the gay, It is the stage to gain ground. Noon’s luster is irrevocable, Shines bright and yellow in every pleasant park; Youth’s struggle is inevitable, It is time to take a leap in the dark. Dusk welcomes twilight, And sunshine mounted up the hill; Aged welcomes melancholy outright, Where life seems motionless and still. Evening is the end of brightness, And the mountains start looking grey; Old age is the end of life’s charmness, Where time hangs heavy. Night compasses the darkness of ignorance, Life gets shorter as the d...

I remember you, a poem by Shila Sinha

I remember you By Shila Sinha I remember you At the wee hours of dawn. You evaded my memory As far as I rekon You were lost elsewhere, Among the cane stems, And swept out by the colours Like a flash of lightning. A dreadful dream Had left me numb, As I allow thoughts Of my existence to succumb. I feel our culture I feel our heritage Deeply rooted in my veins How can I go without them I remember you At the wee hours of dawn   I’m terrified, shocked  of A powerful blow of it Comes like a flow of lava From the volcano Yelling of the thousands Cannot be stopped That frightened me of the bloodshed I remember you At the wee hours of dawn. The language of poetry is heightened mostly by emotions. It concentrates meaning as a perfume concentrates different fragrances. We need poetry when life astounds us with losses gains or celebrations. Poetry is the language we speak in times of our greater need. Shila Sinha is a Bangalore-based te...
