Probhat Kumar Sinha

The Assam University, Silchar awarded Ph.D degree to Probhat Kumar Sinha, H.O.D. Political Science Deptt., R.M.College, Silchar, District: Cachar, Assam for his doctoral thesis “Evolution of Socio Political Consciousness among Bishnupriya Manipuris of Assam since 20th Century”, a depth study on Bishnupriya Manipuris, a linguistic fraternity of Assam and N.E. Region of India under the guidance of Dr. Tanmoy Bhattacharjee, Professor of Assam University, Silchar.

He also prosecuted research study on the topic “Women Empowerment of a Backward Community – A case study of Bishnupriya Manipuris in Barak Valley”, financed by the University Grants Commission NE Region, Guwahati with the amount of Rs.60,000/- (Sixty Thousand) only and submitted this thesis in 2007.

Now he is involved in research study on the topic “Social Philosophy of Gokulananda Geetiswami, Harbinger of Social Consciousness of the Bishnupriya Manipuris in relevance with the philosophy of Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha”, undertaking a Minor Research Project from the University Grants Commission NE Region, Guwahati with the Scholarship of Rs.1,10,000/- (One Lakh Ten Thousand) only.

Besides these he contributes articles on various issues of this linguistic fraternity in newspapers & journals of different languages such as Bishnupriya Manipuri, Bengali & English and presents seminar papers relating to this linguistic community in National as well as International seminars.

    Prof.Dr.Prabhat Sinha is from a vey remote village,named Nurkha, of Patherkandi sub-division of Karimganj District, Assam. He has struggled hard to come to this level,inspite of lot of problems he had faced during his doctoral preparation.
    We congratulate him and his family for such a rare achievement.

Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council: Few Pertinent Questions (Part I)

By Rebati Mohan Sinha On last 25th March 2010 there was an announcement in the floor of the House that the Government of Assam has agreed on principle to form three separate Social Economic Development Councils for Bishnupriya Manipuri, Nath Yugi and Maimal. And now the Cabinet Committee has given its nod. It will be placed in the House (not yet placed) and once it is passed, then a Ministerial Committee would consult the stake holders i.e. these three communities, regarding their aspirations and would send its recommendation accordingly to the Central Government for further action within the next two months. The two months time since been elapsed, even then the bill is yet to show its face in the House. The Ministerial consultation is quite far away.
