A meeting that would have created a significant impact on the life of 149 Bishnupriya Manipuri teachers, held between the representatives of Bishnupriya Manipuri Language Teachers Association and its support-organizations, with the Assam Government, it has not seen any improvement on the ground.
The meeting took place on June 18, 2009, in Dispur, Assam.
Discussions held between the Secretary to the Government of Assam, Elementary Education Department, and the representatives, it was stated that since the release of payments of 149 Bishnupriya Manipuri teachers is related to the decision of the Cabinet, a next round of meeting with the Education Minister, Government of Assam, Gautam Bora, is required.
“Meeting with the Education Minister will be held soon and it will be on getting approval of the finance,” said Gopidas Sinha, Chief Adviser, Bishnupriya Manipuri Language Teachers Association.
Gautam Bora failed to meet with the representatives of the organisations due to ill health, Gopidas Sinha said.
The meeting was attended by Subal Sinha, Chairman, Gana Sangram Parishad; Gopidas Sinha, Chief Adviser, Bishnupriya Manipuri Language Teachers Association; Anil Rajkumar, President, Bishnupriya Manipuri Student Union; Harikanta Sinha, Advisor, Bishnupriya Manipuri Language Teachers Association; Gurudas Sinha, Social Worker; Rita Sinha, President, Bishnupriya Manipuri Women’s Association, Mahendra Sinha, General Secretary, Bishnupriya Manipuri Language Teachers Association.
