SILCHAR, June 3 – An eminent educationist of Sanskrit in the State, Prof Kali Prasad Sinha passed away yesterday at his East Kachudharam residence on the outskirts of Silchar town. He was 75.

Prof Sinha retired from Assam University as head of the Department of Sanskrit. Ealier, he was lecturer of Sanskrit at Gauhati University and then at Tripura University prior to joining Assam University.
He was the first Bishnupriya Manipuri scholar to have been awarded PhD and DLit degrees. A bachelor, Prof Sinha was the general secretary of the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha for sometime. He was also associated with the Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Sabha.
Prof Tapodhir Bhattacharjee, Vice Chancellor of Assam University has expressed deep sorrow on his demise. He termed Prof Sinha as not only an educationist, but a great philosopher. Prof Sinha’s contribution to Sanskrit education will always be remembered, he felt.
Prof Sinha’s demise was widely mourned.
