SILCHAR, Dec 12: Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council has at last taken shape with the inauguration of its office in a rented premises located at National Highway here today by Kartik Sena Singha, MLA of Patharkandi who is also the chairman of the Council for which he has been pressing for after switching over from BJP to Congress.
The Council office was inaugurated in the presence of other office-bearers and distinguished persons. It is to be recalled that on the eve of Rajya Sabha elections, Kartik Sena Singha, Dr Rumi Nath and Shambhu Singh Mala of BJP joined Congress, deserting BJP on their specific demand for development councils for their communities.
Kartik Sena Singha in his brief address said that with the coming into being of the development council, all out efforts would be made for the socio-economic and academic improvement and advancement of Bishnupriya Manipuri community of Barak Valley as a whole by proper utilization of funds to be allocated by the State Government. The Council has been constituted with 12 members, two of them being nominated by the State Government, besides chairman and the vice-chairman.
