BM writers felicitate biographer Haridas Sinha

Guwahati, Nov 2: The Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers’ Forum (BMWF), Guwahati, felicitated biographer Haridas Sinha of Tripura at a simple function at Babyland School, Tarun Nagar, Guwahati on Sunday. The Forum also formed a committee with educationist and litterateur Kumkum Sinha as President and BMWF Vice-President Narendra Kumar Sinha as general secretary to observe the birth anniversary of Geetiswami Gokulananda on November 26. Geetiswami Gokulananda is an alternative media mogul who is remembered by the members of the Bishnupriya Manipuri as a bard and the Jatiya Kabi.

While BMWF president and litterateur DILS Lakshmindra Sinha gave a detailed account on the objectives and activities of the Forum, educationist and writer Sukhajyoti Sinha delivered an elaborate lecture on the development of Bishnupriya Manipuri language and literature. She laid stress on the grammar of the language that varies from areas to areas. “A common grammar acceptable to all is a must for the development of the language and its literature,” she said, and added: “The two parallel schools of thought on spelling should sink their differences for the sake of development of the language and its literature. It’s true that two parallel lines never meet, but for the sake of development of Bishnupriya Manipuri language and literature the two rival schools of thought on spelling should draw a compromising line and sink the existing differences between them. If it isn’t done now, it’s the language and literature of the community that will suffer the worst casualty.” She further said since the working people cannot afford much time for social and literary activities, the retired people in the society can contribute to the cause. She is of the opinion that since languages continue to change like living organisms, the Bishnupriya Manipuri writers should also be accommodative to the new words that make their way to their language.

In his speech, Haridas Sinha, who wrote the biographies of Sri Sri Bhubaneswar Sadhuthakur, Gokulananda Geetiswami and Nileswar Mukherjee, gave a detailed account on the contribution of Geetiswami and Mukherjee.

Litterateur and educationist Kumkum Sinha, Santa Sinha, Forum members Pratibha Sinha, Ramendra Sinha, Narendra Kumar Sinha and others spoke on the occasion.

    Can I have a privilege to ask few questions for the benefit of the readers of this blog.Whatever news so far published in this blog clearly indicate that the forum is
    a Guwahati based organisation and run by the local Bishnupriya Manipuris, still then I would like to ask the president whether this forum is formed for Guwahati or intended for entire community?
    If it is so, then was there any formal notification published in
    print or electronic media of informing general public of its formation? Looking at the activities one can gauge that the
    sole purpose of such activities
    subjected to self promotion only.
    Let the 6 months old infant(forum)walk on it's own foot first.
