Demand for Barak Valley devp council reiterated

KARIMGANJ, Sept 30 – In order to create pressure on the Centre and the State Government for formation of Barak Valley Economic Development Council, a meeting of Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya -O-Sanskrit Sammelan was recently held at Silchar.
The meeting resolved to organise a mass convention on their demand where representatives from the three district of the valley would participate after the Durga Puja festival. During the peace talks between ULFA and the Centre, the Central Government should look after the interest of Barak Valley, they demanded.

Dr Bhibash Ranjan Chaudhury, president of Silchar town Anchalik Samiti described the dilapidated condition of communication, electricity, unemployment problem and said all these problems made the valley an underdeveloped region. To solve the problems of the valley, the only solution is to form Barak Valley Economic Development Council.

AIUDF MLA Ataur Rehman Majharbhuiya also stressed upon the need for launching an agitation. The meeting was also addressed by Nikhil Cachar, Hairamba Barman, samiti president Birendra Chandra Barman, Barak Valley Manipuri Development Committee leader Kul Chandra Singha, Dimasa Sahitya Parishad leader Sunil Kumar Burman, Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Parishad general secretary Mani Kanta Singh, Barak Valley Gurkha Community leader Bijay Chetri and others. The meeting was presided over by Taimur Raj Chaudhury.

It may be recalled that the demand for creating Barak Valley Economic Development Council was raised at the convention held at Karimganj on September 18, 2005.

The search engine has been launched to get results exclusively on queries and information related to Assam. 'Bisarok', means 'to search' in Assamese language, has been launched and has been linked to various websites of the Government of Assam and departments, educational institutions and media.
