Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council: Few Pertinent Questions (Part III)

In an editorial of a monthly language paper the following lines were published on the Development Council: “The 25thMarch 2010 would be written in our BM history with golden letter. Our long cherished dream has come true.” Really, I don’t understand why we are so emotional on such a Govt. declaration. It was something quite over rated and exaggerated.

It is no doubt that the Mahasabha played a critical role in making this happen. And it is nice to be a part of an effort that has transformed images across the Bishnupriya Manipuri society. I feel a sense of happiness and joy, a sense of pride and gratefulness that we have been able to help the society for the people to build their own career.

The persons responsible to Mahasabha however should not be self obsessed by the fear of losing their popularity. It is necessary to work in the interest of the society and stop the society becoming a one man show.

A leader is one who is not only good in creating a vision, creating a big picture of himself; but also ensuring that he goes into the details of making sure that the vision is actually translated into reality through excellence of execution. In other words, great leaders have great vision, great imagination, great ideas; but they also implement those ideas through hard work, commitments and flawless execution. In doing so he must motivate his followers to visit villages to collect data of every rural household, its income, literacy status, type of housing, family food security, sanitation, availability of clothing, drinking water facility and so on. He must prioritize the core issues affecting the society.

A leader is an efficient decision maker and able to tackle issues at the grass root level. It is not just about being a good politician but also should be a good listener. One should have an ability to connect with maximum people and to be able to forge a tie with more and more people through action and not just words like politicians, who believe in extremely short-term vision and plays up to base emotions like hate, envy or greed.

Basically, we believe in gossiping, criticizing and mud slinging, no matter what is our status in the society? We are no longer looking at improving the quality of life of our people, encouraging talent and self employment, making justice, and health care, more affordable homes. We talk about Bishnupriya Manipuri language and language teachers; but no one monitors to ensure that these teachers actually impart lessons to our children in schools or not! Our big task ahead will be to restore people’s faith. We have to work hard for that. Time has come to re affirm our enduring spirit, to carry forward that noble idea: the God given promise that all are free.

    Yah one loses his own dignity if he is left out of any of the posts and some are money hungry some are fame hungry so be ware of those who play with the sentiments of ones self and cry foul behind the scenes and they play the cat and monkey game who to blame the cat or the mouse so the difference says that what will the BMDC members do and imply to do for the betterment on the basis of their trend and what will they show about their strength to do something and will it be like hit and go policy ( collect govt aid and pocket themselves) and then play some game and say I got nothing so what will I give to the community .
    Will Power needed as i see lots of people who have hurted the BM community ( without namingthe duds) who cradle with the MYNKKS as chamchas as they have a ? mark as will they work for the community

    Teacher's appointment is a great success to our societies upliftment but all the teacher's appointed should remember the people of the society for whom they got the position and hence should teach the students like a teacher who is always a respected person for all sections of the society.

A life devoted to poetry
