Guwahatians to recall Gokulananda

GUWAHATI, Nov 25: Litteraturs, intellectuals, academicians, politicians and others of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community will assemble at Radhamadhab Sebashram at Maligaon in Guwahati on November 26 to commemorate alternative media mogul Gokulananda Geetiswami on the occasion of his 115th birthday. Organized by the Brihattar Guwahati Geetiswami Gokulananda Singha Janma Jayanti Utjapan Samiti (BGGGSJJUS) under the aegis of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers’ Forum (BMWF), the day will be observed with day-long programmes, including a seminar on the life and philosophy of Geetiswami Gokulananda Singha at 10 am.
Alternative media mogul Geetiswami Gokulananda Singha was born on November 26, 1896 and died on July 10, 1962. During his about 67-year span of life, Geetiswami Gokulananda made many an impossible task in the filed of social awakening and development possible through alternative media since there had been a mainstream vacuum in the Bishnupriya Manipuri community in yestercenturies. Geetiswami successfully broke the barriers of media vacuum with the help of alternative media as a padkirtanist.
According to BGGGSJJUS secretary Narendra Kumar Sinha and BMWF president DILS Lakshmindra Sinha, the seminar to be presided over by Advocate Bimalesh Sinha will have Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council (BMDC) Chairman and MLA Kartiksena Sinha as the chief guest, BMDC Deputy Chairman Banabir Sinha, Dr Smriti Kumar Sinha of Tezpur University, poet Nanigopal Sinha of Haflong, poet Mera Thakur, poet (Hindi) KC Jain, senior journalist Soumen Bharatiya, social worker Shanti Kumar Sinha, social worker Anil Singha Gautam and Hamren SP Pratap Sinha as the guests of honour. The speakers at the seminar are Chandra Kanta Sinha (Singla), Shibendra Sinha (Haflong), Shankha Sinha, Sandhya Sinha and others. BMWF president DILS Lakshmindra Sinha will deliver the welcome address before the lunch break at 2 pm.
It will be followed by a programme to felicitate senior citizens. The programme to be held at 3 pm will be presided over by Shyamakanta Sinha and poet Sashi Kumar Sinha. It will be followed by a cultural nite to be inaugurated at 3.30 pm by litterateur Biresh Ranjan Sinha. The artistes are singer Gautam Sinha, singer Bina Sinha, dance guru Bibhul Sinha, singer Shyam Kumar Sinha, singer Rupali Sinha, Chandrika Rajkumari, dancer Saini Sinha and dancer Sukanya Sinha.
Earlier in the day, the flag will be hoisted at 9 am by social worker Dhansena Sinha and floral tribute will be paid to Geetiswami Gokulananda by social worker Suhkajyoti Sinha at 9.30 am.

    any way it is double celebration, one at Silpigram on Nov 21 as 114th birth anniversary and another at Maligaon on Nov 26 as 115th birth day.

Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council: Few Pertinent Questions (Part I)

By Rebati Mohan Sinha On last 25th March 2010 there was an announcement in the floor of the House that the Government of Assam has agreed on principle to form three separate Social Economic Development Councils for Bishnupriya Manipuri, Nath Yugi and Maimal. And now the Cabinet Committee has given its nod. It will be placed in the House (not yet placed) and once it is passed, then a Ministerial Committee would consult the stake holders i.e. these three communities, regarding their aspirations and would send its recommendation accordingly to the Central Government for further action within the next two months.
