  1. Wow. Debojit good stuff. Good to the mighty Bhupen Hazarika. We can take inspiration from the photographs, how beautifully the Assamese community of Mumbai has established its 'Assamese'identity while celebrating the Durga Puja.

We can see the beautiful Assamese Gamosa everywhere.Visually very very striking.Kudos!

  2. Bishnupriya Manipuri Kalyan Sangathan,Mumbai is also taking part from it`s inception of this celebration of Durgutsav at Assam Bhavan.Assam Bhavan is quite nearer to my place compare to other B.M.families living in Mumbai,so quite often my family represents entire community on all celebrations like Rongali Bihu. The talk is going on between me and the Commissioner for placing a photograph of sri sri Bhubaneshwar
Sadhu thakur on the wall of Assam Bhavan along with other religious
    icons such as Shankar Deo.

Kindly elaborate what is your take on this connect or disconnect? Is celebrating Puja with Assamese a crime? If yes please lead us what is the divine path.

  7. Hi Pink,

Am not against Puja :-) neither celebrating puja with Assamese, am concerned with the article as the articles posted here are of interest and seems to be interconnected with us but am not finding any in this particular.

Though never posted any article till date but I really enjoy reading every post as it relates with us. Similar to the article, I can also request the moderator to post regarding a puja done by bengalis in Aus. But is that something of interest to us ?

  8. Here I would like to clear Mr.Raghab's apprehension.Partially he is some what correct in asking so because the sudden appearance of such article baffled him. Here there is a very strong "Assam Association" in mumbai;but it does not celebrate Durga Puja under it's banner.Mumbai Asomiya Sarvajanin Durga Puja Samiti(East.2006)is celebrating.Bengalis from Silchar,Karimganj and Hailakandi also join Assam Bhavan under the banner of sreehatta Sammilani in
celebration along with us.I think it will suffice.

Fact is majority of our people live in Assam and it is quite natural that we also participate in affairs which concerns the people of Assam.

Lets not create narrow minded sub- nationalism of Assamese, Bengali or Bishnupriya Manipuri identity overall a festival which has universal appeal. In fact Durga Puja is not even a BM festival yet we participate with so much zeal.

Finally a very important point to remember is we live in Assam and not Bengal and hence it makes no sense for you to project pujas of Bengal (in case that is what you meant). We have an obligation to be part of mainstream Assam society as much as Bengalis living in Assam.
