GUWAHATIANS RECALL GITSWAMI, Dec 3, The Sentinel

GUWAHATI,Dec 1: The 112th birth anniversary of Gokulananda Gitiswami, a bard and
alternative media moghul in the Bishnupriya Manipuri Community,was observed at the auditorium of Shilpagram in Guwahati with slew of programms that concluded at 9.30 pm last night.Right from the leichandan to the cultural programme that was associated with the celebration,the day long programme presided over by Sri Rebati Mohan Sinha of Mumbai kept the capacity crowd at the auditorium spell bound.While inauguration committee president Sushil Kumar Sinha and General Secretary DILS Lakshmidra Sinha gave a detailed account on the importance of the observance of the day,invited speakers like reformist Lt Col. Bijay Sinha, Agnipurush Gopinath Sinha, Chief guest of the function and Axom xahitya xabha(AXX) Vice president Satish Choudhury, litterateur Mathura Sinha, litterateur Prabhash Kanti Sinha, Nabendu Sinha (IPS) and Pratap Sinha, ASP gave detailed account on the life, philosophy and contribution of the bard for the uplift of the Bishnupriya Manipuri literature and the community as a whole on all fronts.

A relay recitation of a brief life story of the alternative media moghul by four girls--Pomi Sinha,Manisha Sinha,Juri Sinha and Bidisha Sinha--did give a fillip to the ceremony in no uncertain term.The function witnessed felicitation of number of personalities likeAgnipurush Gopinath Sinha,Kumkum (only woman from Asom to hold the post of Commisioner,Scout and Guides,Northeast headquarters),Nabendu Sinha(IPS) and ASP Pratap Sinha.DILS Singha also gave its annual awards to Singer Ashutosh Sinha(Rabi) and litterateur Prabhash Kanti Sinha for the years 2007 and 2008 respectively for their contribution to the society in their respective fields.

In the cultural programme,singers Manju Sinha,Shyam Kumar Sinha,Sumana Sinha and Pramila Sinha and a group dance by Suraksha and her party mesmerised the audience.Upcoming singer Rahul Sinha left the audience with the impression that he would be an artiste to be reckoned with.While Nikhkil Bishnupriya Manipuri Sanskriti Parishad General SecretaryAshutosh Sinha led the cultural function from the front,noted singer Goutam Sinha helped the upcoming singers by accompanying them with musical instruments.

Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council: Few Pertinent Questions (Part I)

By Rebati Mohan Sinha On last 25th March 2010 there was an announcement in the floor of the House that the Government of Assam has agreed on principle to form three separate Social Economic Development Councils for Bishnupriya Manipuri, Nath Yugi and Maimal. And now the Cabinet Committee has given its nod. It will be placed in the House (not yet placed) and once it is passed, then a Ministerial Committee would consult the stake holders i.e. these three communities, regarding their aspirations and would send its recommendation accordingly to the Central Government for further action within the next two months. The two months time since been elapsed, even then the bill is yet to show its face in the House. The Ministerial consultation is quite far away.
