Where are we heading?

By Ranjit Sinha (Arunachal Pradesh) It is said that the individual and society are interrelated and interdependent. An individual needs society for development of human values and above all for his survival. On the other hand, society is formed by the group of individuals. Needless to say, like other communities of the world, the Bishnupriya Manipuri community can not imagine of their existence without society. When we talk about our society, we are driven by our social pattern to think about our village life or social life in village. And the brazen truth is that the basic foundation of our society has been traumatized by so-called modernization and petty politics. For instance, I would like to share my bitter experience gained during the visit to a village under Karimganj district in Assam last December, 2010. I was present in one of my friends’ house who is mourning the death of his father. At the evening I could find around 20 people, most of them children between the age...

Corruption and us

Ranjit Sinha There is no magic wand which would lead to an instant solution to ills like corruption and black money. This was the disclosure of Prime Minister during his interaction session with senior editors of the country recently. As a head of the democratic set up, PM advocated for enforcement of more laws to tackle corruption. Obviously, fingers are raised against Congress being the party in power for many decades on corruption issue. BJP declared the 2010 as year of the scams with its slogan ‘Congress ka haath, gotala ka saath’. The scam list include 2G Spectrum, Commonwealth Games, Adarsh Society, rotten food grains, inflation of food prices, rice export, PDS, CVC appointment, LIC housing and Satyam Scams. The party’s fact finding committee also prepared a report on scams in North East separately. However, it does not mean that political parties other than Congress have developed its immune system against corruption. During the first quarter of 2004, the Congress ha...

Of writer and writing

By Ranjit Sinha, Arunachal Pradesh For last few days, my mind was hovering upon the agility of writers and reasoning of their writings. Why do the writers write, is it for name or fame, or is it self-imposed responsibility towards society? In fact the diminutive article thrown by RK Rishikesh Sinha, ( The art of life ) has forced readers like me to ponder upon. “Writing is not at all for readers to read. One writes for oneself,” — the conclusion drawn by Rishi itself unveiled the brazen truth and it also carried a message to all upcoming writers in our society. I could say that there are two categories of writers — stimulated writers and professional writers. Large number of the stimulated writers bid adieu to writing at their prime time of life, only few of them survive and run the show in our society. On the other hand there are a few numbers of professional writers who are undecided to embrace writing as profession in the long run as it can not help them to earn bread and...
