Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council: Few Pertinent Questions (Part III)

By Rebati Mohan Sinha Read Part I , Part II In an editorial of a monthly language paper the following lines were published on the Development Council: “The 25thMarch 2010 would be written in our BM history with golden letter. Our long cherished dream has come true.” Really, I don’t understand why we are so emotional on such a Govt. declaration. It was something quite over rated and exaggerated. It is no doubt that the Mahasabha played a critical role in making this happen. And it is nice to be a part of an effort that has transformed images across the Bishnupriya Manipuri society. I feel a sense of happiness and joy, a sense of pride and gratefulness that we have been able to help the society for the people to build their own career. The persons responsible to Mahasabha however should not be self obsessed by the fear of losing their popularity. It is necessary to work in the interest of the society and stop the society becoming a one man show. A leader is one who

In the name of matrimony

By RK Rishikesh Sinha A year back I wrote an article on Lohong – the one and only Bishnupriya Manipuri matrimonial site . Again I am hitting on this site since with the passage of time my appreciation towards it is increasing manifold. I have great regards with the whole concept behind the development of the site. Also there is a sweet pain seeing the web environment that is around it. I expect few of the matrimonial sites might have popped up around this post. These sites depending upon your geographical location would have thrown upon you many known and unknown matrimonial sites. If you are in India you might see images and links associated with sites like Jeevansathi.com, Shaadi.com, SecondShaadi.com, SimpleMarry.com, Bharatmatrimony.com, Communitymatrimony.com etc. To be noted that Jeevansathi.com is a Naukri.com venture of Info Edge (I) Ltd – India’s first Internet-based company which went public. Here, for the sake of an example, Jeevansathi.com has been taken for considerat

Nine day long Lord Jagnnath Puja ends with return Yatra in Arunachal Pradesh

Pasighat: The nine-day-long Jagnnath Puja (Rath Yatra) ended with the return Yatra of Lord Jagannatha, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra entering into the Manipuri temple, situated at Pasighat Bazaar (opposite of Balaji temple). The Bishnupriya Monipuri community celebrates the Rath Yatra annually with devotional favour and joy. Hundreds of devotees thronged revered Manipuri Jagnnatha temple and offered puja. This spectacular Puja/festival is celebrated in the month of Asadha, on the second day of the lunar fortnight that falls during June-July. Popularly known as Rath Yatra, this is celebrated in the honor of Lord Jagannatha who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Rath Yatra commemorates the journey of Lord Krishna from Gokul to Mathura. It also symbolizes a journey to light from the dark. Courtesy: Orissadiary.com July 23, 2010

Bisnupriya Manipuri Welfare Society Itanagar formed

From a Correspondent Around 196 languages in India including about 120 in Northeast are included in endangered list, according to the UNESCO report - 2009. What is more pathetic is that one of the 10 Great Andamanese languages died due to death of last speaker of this language Boa Sr. in the recent past. Though such kind of information cannot deter the unwavering mind set of Bishnupriya Manipuri community, involvement of each and every community members to be in the forefront of the civilization in the world is necessary. Keeping this view in mind, the Bishnupriya Manipuri Community of Itanagar, state capital of Arunachal Pradesh unanimously formed an organization, christened as Bishnupriya Manipuri Welfare Society in a meeting held at the side line of Kechuri Pali on July 18. A 21-member executive body was also formed with Rakhal Mishra, Shashi Kumar Sinha and Haridas Sinha as president, vice president and general secretary respectively. Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Council: Few Pertinent Questions (Part II)

By Rebati Mohan Sinha, Mumbai The Government of Assam has been making concerted efforts in fulfilling the aspiration of people of the backward regions and backward communities relating to their socio-cultural identity, language, education and economic development. Therefore, its objective is to create the self governing Autonomous/Development Councils and provide the constitutional protection to these communities, under the sixth schedule, to fulfil the economic, educational, and linguistic aspiration and the preservation of socio-cultural and ethnic identity. This concept of village centric councils in contiguous area without a defined boundary was from the recommended constitution of the Bhupinder Committee of village councils and regional councils.
