Bujon, start writing your biography

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi We the great Bishnupriya Manipuri people must start writing our own history, literature and any entity that we can call is our own. It may be related to our people, their thoughts, their village, their way of living and if possible everything under the sun. If we do not undertake now, sooner or later we will definitely find ourselves in a bizarre world – devoid of any characters that defines of being a Bishnupriya Manipuri. And who are these people who are going to enrich our understanding about our community? They are our bujon, the elderly people. The world they have seen; and have witnessed how it had unfolded in front of their eyes, are something that are treasure troves of knowledge and information. It is my father, my elders, your father, your grandparents. They must start writing about their life. That is enough. The narration of their life will be self-explanatory. The writings on their life are real diamond mines of information. Just sim

Wear Bishnupriya Manipuri dress in college freshers’ day; and become cynosure of your friends

By Sonica Rajkumari, New Delhi Few days to go, we all will enter into a new year 2009, leaving behind 2008 for ever. For some people this year would have been worse, for some so-so, and for some would have been very nice. If I take my case this year has been nice to me. This year I had full of surprises and suspense in my kitty. In this year I have been thrown into a new rejuvenated and different sort of world: the hostel life. Exactly a year-gap in between the discipline-school and the casual-college where I am pursuing my study presently. So for me the first year in the college has been very thrilling and exciting. Though we haven't faced any sort of ragging.  We have not got our seniors as we are the first batch of SPA (School of Planning and Architecture), Vijayawada. So it became our disadvantage and as well as advantage as we are getting attention and responsibility in putting up our best work, to make each event and festival lively and unforgettable. During Onam, which was

Delhi Mahila Samity: answer back the looming negativity

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi Newton's first law of motion: An object at REST tends to stay at REST and an object in MOTION tends to stay in MOTION with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The same century-old law of motion can be read out like this: People at REST tend to stay at REST unless acted upon by an external force.  Or in plain English: Old habits die hard.  Why all this universal law and proverb? Because there are souls among us who are adamant to stem any growth as such taking place around them. They are negative, pessimistic in their approach towards life, towards their brethren. They want to remain at absolute REST, and they hate to change coming to motion. The story goes back to the day when 120 strong Bishnupriya Manipuri people living in Delhi and NCR region assembled on 21 December, 2008 and were celebrating get-together meeting for the first time at picture-perfect location at Najafgarh.

Talk with children in IMAR THAR

By Ramanuj Sinha, New Delhi Language (IMAR THAR) is one of the most fundamental aspects of a people’s culture. We all want our children to speak the language of their heritage. Let us discount the opinions of those who say that it is better to forget “IMAR THAR” and to concentrate on speaking “MAYANG THAR” well. These people are just wrong. It does not hurt your “English/Hindi/Bengali/Assamese/………..” to speak your own language; it helps.  My dear friend Henryy has rightly said in his recent Article “ JINGTA KORO IMAR THAR ” that “A simple survey would reveal, the 5-10 families residing in New Delhi for the last 30-40 years, have butchered the growth of the Bishnupriya Manipuri language………Their children DO NOT SPEAK the language…….” I have come up with an “APPEAL” to all those Bishupriya Manipuri people. Please try to speak in “IMAR THAR” with your children. Do not be afraid of "confusing" the child. Children can identify speakers of different languages as they grow up.  M

Govt Job! Crosscheck your OBC certificate

In 1995, I appeared in an interview test for Production Operator in the Guwahati Refinery (IOCL). Fortunately I cleared the written test and was ranked 3rd in the overall successful candidates for the personal interview. Next day was the personal interview and during scrutiny of my documents, the selection committee members told me that my OBC certificate was not in the prescribed format as required for any jobs in Central or PSU Company under Govt. of India. My OBC document was from All Assam Other Backward Classes Association. So they disqualified me as I had applied for the position under OBC quota even though they put me in the General Category list on the notice board. I got so frustrated that I could not face my father for next few days and immediately got my OBC certificate done in the prescribed format. (http://www.rrbbpl.nic.in/Download/obc_certi_format.pdf) Fortunately I got another opportunity a year later and got employed in a NAVARATNA PSU but not in IOCL. So that was

NBMM extends helping hand to kin of city blast victims, Dec 2, The Assam Tribune

NGO extends helping hand to kin of city blast victims Staff reporter GUWAHATI, Dec 1 – So many deaths and so much bloodshed of the innocent – the saga of horror and destruction triggered by terrorists with international network is the same across the country. The pain at the loss of precious lives in terrorist attack is universal and hence the response of the common people has cut across geographical boundaries in an expression of solidarity to the families affected by terror attack. On Sunday, when the State remembered fateful October 30 that left a trail of blood and destruction proving the casual attitude of the authorities to security matters, members of the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha (NBMM), Western India region arrived at Hengarabari, the area that lost several lives in the Ganeshguri blast with words of consolation and financial assistance. The members of the Mahasabha who reside in Mumbai visited some families of the blast victims and offered words of courage and hop

Jingta Koro Imar Thar

The Bishnupriya Manipuri language is in fact an eco friendly, cholesterol free language. It does no harm if spoken moderately, at least at home or with fellow Bishnupriya Manipuris. Injecting into the child the habit to speak in Bishnupriya Manipuri should be as crucial as polio vaccination is. By Henryy Sinha, New Delhi Grant me the privilege for a constructive crib! On the 21st December 2008, a Mahila Samiti was formed in New Delhi by the Bishnupriya Manipuri Nagarik Samiti, (New Delhi- NCR). Needless to say, it’s a great initiative. Most importantly, an important initiative. But somehow a wicked voice in my head says, this Mahila Samiti might end up as yet another feel good, cosmetic outfit. Sorry for my premonition. I might have just fallen prey to facts. Maybe plain history. It’s ritualistic to offer ‘privileges’ to a woman with a patronizing tone for the men. Be it America, Afghanistan or Japirbon, the plot remains the same. And this ritual, I bet is very much pronounced in o

Increase General Knowledge of Bishnupriya Manipuri

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi What will you call a person who inadvertently thinks anything related to the community is detrimental, not his cup of tea (definitely in respect to job) and it is not-ripe time to involve? What is the problem with him/ her – is the natural question, you ask yourself? Same here I feel when I ask some knowledgeable friends of mine to write (very few)/ receive SMS (too many) for this blog.  They are carrying notion, pre-conceived though, in their mind, I say.  Something that is very common to all their response, sometimes come in veiled and very rare – openly, is that they don’t want to keep in touch with anything related to the community: it is too early to be associated with such so-called activities. They say.  Now, coming to me – I feel so proud and deep inside content that my understanding on the community and “inter-alia” knowledge is increasing. I just don’t do my job and come to home; and I don’t follow the dreaded routine. Just writing on the

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi Photo: Biprojit Sinha Over 120 Bishnupriya Manipuri living in Delhi and NCR region participated in the get-together meeting held at Najafgarh on 21 December, 2008. It was a complete gaga on the part of the youngsters, parents, children since they all had a nice time spending with their own people on a grand picturesque location, and in a chilly winter season of Delhi. It was a success with its sheer number of participants. More than that it came as an opportunity for all people to have countenance with their friends, relatives and to just spend golden moments with others. Drop in temperature didn’t deter people from participating in the programme. They came from every pockets of Delhi and NCR region. People came from Patparganj, Dilshad Garden, Laxmi Nagar, Lado Sarai, Sagarpur, Manglapuri , CR Park, Shyam Vihar, Dwarka etcetra areas. It's never too late, a poem by Tridiv Sinha

By Tridiv Sinha, New Delhi Young man comes to a metro city, To become successful like his daddy. Tell him not to end up messy, Coz life's bitter, not that cozy. He tries to materialize his dreams, But is shattered by the heartless screams. Tried putting small things in seams, Thread is fragile, just like day-dreams. He starts his life with a small job, To save himself from tears and sob. After one year of sweet - bitter lob, People find him a foolish snob. When he realizes what he became, Only to find it too hard to tame. In his path to gain money and fame, He engulfs in quicksand of shame. Now it's too late to turn back, He suffered life's unforgiving smack. Tell him it's never too late, He can make his own fate.

Empowerment of women is a slow process

By Tridiv Sinha, New Delhi The following words are not diplomatic. Please don’t take me as a male chauvinist person, all I am trying to put forward is the naked truth and people might get offended here. If this article has passed the moderator, I think there’s some why you should read it too. The kind of society ideal people is looking for, where women will be considered equal to men is an ideal case. Not a real one. Not possible until there is a huge biological change in physical form. Not possible until women are equal in strength compared to men. By strength, I mean both population and physical strength. This is an old jungle rule and no one can deny it. Having said that, I would want to put forward another fact - human beings are mammals. Now, what separates a mammal from other organisms? The mammary glands, which they use to feed the young ones. This creates a strong bond between the mother and the offspring. The bond between a mother and the offspring is much more than that with

Good-Evil, Light-Dark, Heaven-Hell: What are these?

Good-Evil, Light-Dark, Heaven-Hell, Positive-Negative, Yin-Yang, Male-Female, Matter-Antimatter, Electron-Proton and so on. What are these? These point out to one single phenomenon existing in our lives – The Great Duality. From time unknown, we are discovering everything with it’s opposite as well. By Tridiv Sinha, New Delhi May be the nemesis is discovered a bit late, but it comes out much stronger than it’s original. After introduction of electricity and artificial light, man thought that now he had conquered the dark. But the bitter truth is that we are killing natural light in the process and so the darkness is growing even more. We all experience dualities in day to day life in different forms. Earth’s past was dominated by dualities, but with increasing time another front is born which is developing faster than a wildfire. It’s killing the boundary between the opposites and trying to establish a compromising or common path between the two. We can’t say whether it’s for better or

Delhi Mahila Samity will be formed on December 21, the get-together day

The Bishnupriya Manipuri Nagarik Samity, Delhi has decided to go ahead with the creation of Mahila Samity on the get-together day scheduled on December 21. On December 21, Bishnupriya Manipuri people living Delhi and adjoining areas are congregating at Shyam Vihar, Delhi so that interaction amongst the populace could take place and given a firm ground. The formation of women wing in Delhi has come at an opportune time as participation of Bishnupriya Manipuri people is showing a marked increase in Delhi and NCR region in the recent years. Unfortunately, participation of women in organising events in the past has been minimal. So, the formation of Mahila Samity will definitely give a boost to their morale and to all the community members. The get-together cum ‘picnic’ arrangement is a day-long programme from morning to evening. The event will be attended by Bishnupriya Manipuri people living in different pockets in the Delhi and NCR region. Read: Delhi Nagarik Samity organising get-toget

Bishnupriya Manipuri in Kolkata on Dec 7 discussed upon raising of fund, registration of the Society

In a meeting held at Prince Anwar Shah Road, Kolkata on December 7, the Bishnupriya Manipuri Awakening Society discussed upon Registration of Society under the society act and ways and means of raising fund for the plot of land either in South or North Kolkata.  The meeting was presided by Dr.Bani Kumar Sinha as President. The General Secretary, Shri Nirmalendu Sinha and Rebati Mohan Sinha as special invitee were also present in the meeting. The attendees held one-minute silence for the Assam blast victims.  Finding registration of the Society not getting ground due to absenteeism of few members, the meeting drew a time period of three months to get the registration done.  However, on the topic of finding a suitable location for a plot of land in Kolkata, no final decision came out from the meeting.  The raising of fund came out as the main topic in the meeting. It was decided that rigorous collection drive should be made to the nook and corners of the city, where our Bishnupriya Manip

Empower womenfolk; automatically community will come to line

By Santosh Kumar Singh, Manipal Upliftment of Bishnupriya Manipuri community without women empowerment is like daydreaming which can never be fulfilled as no reality is involved. Eminent personalities viz. Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Vivekananda understood women's importance in the development of a whole system. Westerners understood this mantra because of which they are far ahead. There are many more problems Bishnupriya Manipuri women are facing, which decelerates the pace of its overall development. Some of the problems faced by Bishnupriya Manipuri community in its women upliftment are: 1.Girls are not motivated to have higher studies as people think the investment in their studies is useless as no return is involved. One can experience this problem mostly in villages. Gaange manuye khalkortara, ningolore niyaam lerik taamkoruweiya kita kaana, maanur ghore jitaigaago, haante khaani maani taamkoruweiya toraakore biya denaai baala. 2. Delhi Nagarik Samity organising get-together meeting in New Delhi on Dec 21, 2008

In order to bridge the communication gap amongst Bishnupriya Manipuri living in Delhi and NCR, the Bishnupriya Manipuri Nagarik Samity is organising a get-together meeting at Shyam Vihar, New Delhi on December 21, 2008 . The Samity has taken a decision to organize the meeting at a farm house at Shyam Vihar.  Taking a cue from the peoples’ reaction in the past events where it has been found as minimal, organising a get-together meeting came as a necessity to enhance comity amongst the residents living in Delhi and NCR.  In the celebration of Abhirbhav Tithi of Sri Sri Bhubaneshwar Sadhu Thakur at Shiv Mandir, New Delhi on November 2nd, 2008, though it was a success on the part of people’s participation, lack of one-to-one countenance was nowhere visible in the day-long programme. Attendees only talked with their known relatives and friends; there were no interaction-platform with other people who had come to grace the occasion. To plug the gap amongst ourselves, the interaction meeti

Gokulananda Utsav held at Guwahati on Nov 30

By Rebati Mohan Sinha Gokulananda Geetiswami Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee of Greater Guwahati extended an invitation in the month of last may in Delhi, where I was leading a delegation of Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha. I could not say 'Yes or 'No' to them.  Again in the month of November representatives came to my house and renewed the request on invitation to attend the celebration on 30th November, 2008. Meantime, we - the Bishnupriya Manipuri people of Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Pune have already decided to contribute some money to bomb blast victims at Guwahati, at this backdrop I agreed to attend the celebration, thinking that I could also be able to hand over the money to needy victims. And prior to departure for Guwahati I tried to contact few people who are known to me so that they can guide me on the way we could in the best way distribute the money. Google arithmetic in internet

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi After two hot consecutive articles ( Time to engineer the Bishnupirya Manipuri Student Union  and  Seere Seere Shinglei, Kacha Rokot Sitade i ). Excuse me! Can you go ahead with a bit technical stuff. Yes! Here it is… Readers who are closely tracking this blog would have noticed how its position has been changing in the Google search and Yahoo!
