Wrong and baseless news: Jogendra Kumar Sinha

President Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Sanskriti Parishad Jogendra Kumar Sinha has said the news which appeared in Silchar-based media few days ago stating that the Central Government has decided to introduce the Bishnupriya Manipuri language programmes in Silchar and Guwahati centres of AIR and Doordarshan was wrong and baseless. He further added “nothing yet been done” to meet the longstanding demand of the community.

“On October 5, I visited Doordarshan Directorate, New Delhi, after getting the news that the Government of India has decided to introduce the Bishnupriya Manipuri language programmes in Doordarshan Kendras of Silchar and Guwahati…and today (October 6, 2009) also contacted officials and found that nothing yet has been done,” he said. Reacting to the news he said “It is a matter of great resentment and frustration for the Bishnupriya Manipuri community.”

Stating about the present status of various demands of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community, he said “The Bishnupriya Manipuri language was introduced in Assam and Tripura at the primary stage of education without appointing any teachers in both the states. The NBMM has been demanding appointments of teachers as per government norms.”

Commenting on the current status of the introduction of the Bishnupriya Manipuri language in AIR and Doordarshan in the majority areas of Assam, Jogendra Kumar Sinha said, “Only an assurance was given by the then Information and Broadcasting Minister on June 26, 2006, that our “cultural programme and religious festivals will be covered as per programme requirements” which is also not up to our satisfaction.”

  1. I m pained to comment on such news.
There are plenty of people in our society whose only full time jobs
are of misguiding the uneducated lot in the villages where they are
living and becoming heroes.Say for instance, few days ago, there were four persons whose names were appeared in this blog, declared that they have solved every problem as if with magic wand,be it introducing of B.M programs in Air/DD or inclusion of B.M in central OBC list. And back at home it appeared that they have become heroes over night.Even they had claimed meeting a quarter
dozen of ministers in Delhi who had just obeyed their orders. And now it seemed to be a rumour very tactfully planted by this group.
