Janma Jayanti of Geetiswami Gokulananda in Guwahati on 27th Nov

Geetiswami Gokulananda Janma Jayanti Udjapan Committee of Guwahati, Assam, is going to celebrate the 115th Birth Anniversary (Janma Jayanti) of Geetiswami Gokulananda on 27th November, 2011 (Sunday) at Shilpagram Auditorium (near Kalakhetra), Panjabari, Guwahati. Like every year, the udjapan committee will be observing the day commemorating the life and contribution of Gokulananda Geetiswami, the noted poet, playwright and social reformer of the Bishnupriya Manipuri community.

On the occasion, the main attractions will be the ‘Speech session’ by different speakers in memory of the contribution of the great soul, award function viz., the 'Geetiswami Award-2011' to a social activist for his/her life time achievement in the field of social service and other specified fields, felicitation of meritorious students, ‘NINGOR KHUTTOL’ (Gift of Honour) to be awarded by DILS Association and at last the cultural programme. The three awardees of ‘NINGOR KHUTTOL’ for the year 2011 as announced by DILS Debojyoti Sinha on behalf of DILS Association are – Uttam Kumar Singha, originally from Tilakpur 
(Bhanugach) of Bangladesh; at present staying at New York, America; RK Rishikesh Sinha, Delhi and Pratibha Sinha, Guwahati for their commendable services and dedication in popularizing the Bishnupriya Manipuri society, culture, literary and various current affairs through the internet media.

The Udjapon committee, Guwahati invites all Bishnupriya Manipuri masses from every corner of the country to make the celebration a grand success by attending the programme.

A short history of the Bishnupriya Manipuri and their religio-cultural consciousness

Undoubtedly, the accurate period of the emergence or the development of religious consciousness of the Bishnupriya Manipuri is difficult to ascertain, but it is an old one that is undoubted, writes Rini Sinha , Guwahati . Religious beliefs are found virtually in every human society. Religious beliefs usually relates to the existence and worship of a deity or deities and divine involvement in the universe and human life.
