Writers from Assam, Tripura take active party International Manipuri meet in Bangladesh

GUWAHATI, April 25: A number of Bishnupriya Manipuri intellectuals and litterateurs from Assam and Tripura actively participated in the International Manipuri Sahitya and Sankriti Festival, 2011 held in Moulabi Bazar in Bangladesh recently. The participants in the grand Manipuri congregation from the two Northeast Indian States were Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha (NBMS) vice-president Hemkanti Sinha, Bishnupriya Manipuri Writers’ Forum (BMWF) president DILS Lakshmindra Sinha, cine artiste Ashutosh Sinha (Rabi) and artist Shakti Kumar Sinha, all from Assam, litterateur and journalist Samarjit Sinha, writer Haridas Sinha, noted story writer and journalist Anukul Sinha and journalist Pratim Sinha, all from Tripura. This apart, noted Manipuri dance guru Padmashree Darshana Javeri of Mumbai took part in the grand two-day congregation organized by the Bangladesh Manipuri Kalyan Samiti.

Talking to this reporter DILS Sinha, who took active part from Assam in the grand Manipuri congregation, said that Hemkanti Sinha, Prabhasini Sinha, Darshana Javeri, poet and philosopher Nripendralal Das, noted Manipuri dance exponent Tamanna Rahman, DILS Lakshmindra Sinha, Prof. Ranjit Sinha and essayist Ahmed Siraj had taken active part to make the programme on “Influence of Manipuri Dance on Rabindra Songs and Dance” a grand success. In the programme meant for songs, dance and recitation, Gaurahari Chaterjee, Suniti Sinha, Mira Sinha, Mrinmoy Sinha, Rabikanta Sinha, Sananda Sinha and cine artiste and singer Ashutosh Sinha (Rabi) kept the audience spell bound.

In the programme on Bishnupriya Manipuri Literature, Samarjit Sinha, noted poet and dramatist Subhashish Sinha, Anukul Sinha, writer Shyam Sundar Sinha and others had a detailed literary discussion. It was followed by a seminar on “the Role of Culture in the Uplift of Standard of Living of the Manipuris” in which Hemkanti Sinha, noted essayist Mofidul Haque, Rajkanta Sinha and Ashutosh Sinha (Rabi) spoke.

Talking to this reporter, DILS Sinha said that they (all who had taken part from India in the grand Manipuri festival) were a happy lot to see the unity, integrity and agility of the Manipuris in Bangladesh for the development of their language, literature and culture. DILS Sinha thanked the Bangladesh Manipuri Kalyan Samiti for holding the grand congregation.
