Kashmir For Me

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi image: eenar 6 I am neither a Kashmiri nor a tourist who is writing a travelogue on Kashmir. But my past relation with this land has prompted me to pen down my thoughts. The story goes back to those days when I was a teenager. I have spent good years of my schooldays in Kashmir from 1991 to 1996-97 which are my cherished memories even today. Living in a Kasmiri’s house and among few Kashmiri friends who didn’t flee after ‘terrorism’ started in the valley, developed my affinity for them. (For many Kashmiris, the word ‘terrorism’ might not go down their throat. For them, it is a ‘freedom movement’.) It’s been more than a decade my family left Kashmir. I wonder why there is a sudden urge in me to put down my thought on Kashmir, and that is after a decade. Understanding that writing on Kashmir will be one more addition on the machinery that is involved into the whole issue of Kashmir problem. I think Kashmir has not been portrayed from a teenager...

Here it is brought to the public domain a televised documentary (it was aired in the Doordarshan Silchar Kendra) on Bishnupriya Manipuri culture and custom. Sau Seva Samiti celebrates Silver Jubilee on Feb 14

Sau Seva Samiti, a Kailashahar (Tripura)-based NGO is going to celebrate silver jubilee (Rajat Jayanti) celebration on February 14, 2010 (Sunday). The programme will start at 09:00 am and the venue of the programme will be at Goldharpur (Rudra Sinha Dwadash Shreni Vidyalaya), Kailashahar, North Tripura. Since 25 years Sau Seva Samiti has been supporting Bishnupriya Manipuri students to pursue higher studies in various fields of general and professional education by providing them financial assistance.

Happy Republic Day

Children's Corner By Ritwick Sinha , Class-III, Don Bosco Sr. Secondary School, Guwahati. Every year on January 26, we celebrate the Republic Day. On this day, India became a Democratic Republic in 1950. Therefore, this is celebrated as the Republic Day. A special parade is held at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi. The President of India takes the salute of the Republic Day parade from the armed forces. Foreign dignitaries also come to see the special parade. Tanks, missiles, many other military weapons of war and fighter jets are displayed in the big parade. Military band, police and children from various schools participate in the parade. A picturesque presentation is shown from all the states. They display the dresses and customs of the people of their own states. Folk dances and songs of different states of India are performed. About the video, it was reported that after it got hit in the You Tube, the sale of the product went down.
