Rath Yatra (Kaang) Celebration at Pune

The Bishnupriya Manipuri Punaitees celebrated Rath yatra with a great fanfare, at Range Hill on 4 th July with an own-built Rath, the chariot, bearing sacred images of Lord Krishna, His sister Subhadra and elder brother Balabhadra, festooned with colorful canopies flower garlands and other decoration by volunteers lead by shri Kulajit Rajkumar, the architect of the celebration.

It was a demonstration of cultural heritage i.e., men and women attired in traditional ceremonial dresses, chanting the ‘surasha akshar’, Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna………….. Hare Hare, the dakulas leading the procession by playing the Mreedong. People standing on both side of the road seen joining the procession, clapping their hands forgetting their cast and creed.

It was told that the entire program was sponsored by the senior most person of Pune city, Shri Ramsena Sinha, the registrar of Balaji Education Society.

When this reporter enquired, he simpl y said "Pune has been my Karma Bhoomi and I have always been blessed by every Maharashtrian to achieve whatever little I have. I am proud of that and am privileged to be associated with Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha who have organized this Rath Yatra Celebration. Most of the Bishnupriyas who have spent times here in Maharashtra have enjoyed the love and affection of every Maharashtrian; and Maharashtrians have equally enjoyed the friendship, gust, sincerity and belongingness of the Bishnupriya Manipuris. I take this opportunity to thank Shri Rebati Mohan Sinha who have encouraged and helped me to have RathYatra on 4th July 2008. I wish every one a very happy Khechureer Palriee. Let unity of all Bishnupriya Manipuris be more that in the face of any individual. Bishnupriya Manipuris of all levels have great hope on us to have more cultural programs and keep every Bishnupriya Manipuri blessed with their cultural heritage."

After the Rath Yatra, the khechuri prosadom was ready for distribution;but not before the Jaidev was performed. The dashavatar was nicely orated by people gathered there.

A life devoted to poetry

Courtesy: The Sentinel By Champalal Sinha In the world of present Bishnupriya Manipuri literature, the man who first makes his imprint on our minds and reflects his image in our eyes, and the name that comes first while discussing the literature of the community is poet Brojendra Kumar Sinha. His fault-finders will, however, have a different view. His is a life totally devoted to poetry, and this is his first identity. It’s poet Brojendra Kumar Sinha who first introduced structural aspect, subject matter, mode of expression, appeal, soul (core), rhetoric and the like in a conscious way in Bishnupriya Manipuri literature in order to put it on a par with developed literatures in the world. And he has been successful in his relentless efforts towards that end. His poems have been translated and published in English, Bengali, Assamese, Nepali, Kokborok, Manipuri, Urdu and other languages, and received with applause. Talking straight, he is the architect of modern Bishnupriya Manipuri poe...

The 'Star' Krishankant Sinha of Space City Sigma

By RK Rishikesh Sinha, New Delhi It is a myth that the all-knowing Internet knows everything. One such myth relates to old television stuff aired on Doordarshan before 1990. Search in Google “Space City Sigma”, the search engine would throw up reminiscent results from the people who still long for those days. Those days were really golden days. Krishankant Sinha in the role of Captain Tara in Space City Singma For those who have watched Doordarshan some 15 to 20 years back, am sure they will have nostalgic memories of it. The days when possessing a now ubiquitous looking television set was a luxury. It was a neighbour’s envy product. It was a visual product to showoff, to flaunt that we have a television set . Those were the days when black and white, locked television was rarely found in homes. The days became immortal for teleserials like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Swami’s Malgudi Days (Ta-Na-Na-Na…), Ek-Do-Teen-Char (Title song: Ek do teen char, chaaro mil ke saath chale to ...
